• i always check libgen first (there’s mirrors if this links down)
  
• after that this custom search engine is really helpful
• if that fails still try google search “"book name" ext:pdf”
• with books in public domain these two sites are nice: https://www.gutenberg.org/ and http://archive.org/
• after that if you still haven’t found it sometimes the books can still be found on irc/torrents, info on how to use irc is here
• if that fails then you might still be able to save money by renting and then de-drm-ing a book before returning it (or at least you can help other people so said book is accessible in the future) there’s a guide for that here
